Hammer mill M3

The ASTW hammer mill is designed for grinding dried fish meal and similar animal feed material, with the main purpose of making a homogeneous meal product. Fibres and coarse particles are cut by the rotating hammers and pass through the perforated screen plate with holes of requisite size according to demand

Through many years of experience, processing machinery to this industry, ASTW has given special attention to design and construction of a hammer mill that stands well up to the requirements and demands of handling material within a great range of varied qualities.

Due to the simple and sturdy construction throughout, the ASTW mills present an attractive and compact appearance. They are easy to operate, have a characteristic smooth running and require little attention during operation.

The upper cover is hinged and easy to open when desired for inspection, eleaning, replacement of screen plate and or / hammers.

Special exchangeable arinding and wearing plates are provided inside the housing.

The screen plate lies loosely in a supporting groove in the side walls of the lower section. When the upper section is opened up, the screen plate is released and becomes easily accessible, and a new screen plate can be set in without the use of tools. The size of the holes in the perforated plate is selected according to the type of meal to be ground and, if necessary, may be adjusted to satisfy special requirements.

The ample screening area gives a rapid passage of the smaller meal particles, thus keeping the portion of fines (dust) to a minimum.

The rotor with its plates and spacers, hammers and pertaining bolts built on a rigid shaft, runs in spherical roller bearings embedded in dustproof housing mounted on the solid brockets welded onto the side walls.

The hammers as well as the bolts are made of a special steel alloy hardfaced to give high resistance to wear and tear. Further the hammers are provide with two holes in both ends and can be placed on the bolts in four different positions, thus prolonging their life four times.

When in operation the hammers remain in a radial position due to the centrifugal force present, and because of the free suspension to the rotor, they act as cutters when hitting the product.

The driving arrangement is normally a V-belt transmission, which is preferred because of the greater possibilities to an independant placing of the drive motor

If a low starting current is required, a hydraulic coupling for mounting on the motor output shaft is recommended to reduce the starting torque.

In cases where the dry meal leaves the drier with a relatively high content of small-sized meal particles, it may be worthwhile separating these particles out by means of a vibrating screen, and feed only the coarse particles into the hammer mill. The ground meal is then returned to a vibrating screen in order to separate coarse particles, which may still be present.

The principle described above reduces the necessary grinding capacity, and at the same time it keeps the power consumption at a minimum.
